Ok, so I’ve got a one track mind right now. Given the “theme”, help me out with some songs that emote hurt and pain….those that leave no doubt as to what the artist is feeling. I’ll kick it off with these:
Hurt – Johnny Cash
Pain in My Heart – Otis Redding
The Hurt – John Mayer
King of Pain – The Police

And although crying is in this title it certainly heals me more than hurts me

Roy Orbison…yes.
The Sky is Crying with SRV, Albert and B.B. King is phenomenal.
Good call, Shrew.

Shrew, I love that song.
I can’t link here at work, but here are 2 of my favs:
Eric Carmen –All By Myself
Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes– If You Don’t Know Me by Now
I used to lay in bed listening to these 45’s and cry. What a sentimental little goober I was (and still am).
MM–since we’ve no longer got Monkbot I will certainly be popping up here–cuz I don’t want you to miss me too much–lol. My music knowledge is relatively lame, but I’ll try to contribute now and then. Keep in touch!!

Lee — you’re thoughts are always welcomed here.
All By Myself has to be one of the saddest songs ever recorded.

Oh what a great topic. Crying songs are my favorite and I am the queen collector of them. I think Roy Orbison’s “Crying” is so painful that I can barely listen to the whole song.
I was alright…for a while…I could smile for a while…but then I saw you last night you held my hand so tight as you stopped to say hello….you wished me well, you couldnt tell..that I’d been cry ahhhhhh ing over you…..
Sheesh….Im all blubbery just typing the damn words.
Allison Krauss has one of the most amazing vocal instruments ever IMO.

Smiles at Deb. You may know this already but here goes. When my guy Bill passed away in November of 2005, I read this at his eulogy. I had always loved it and at that moment in time, it pretty much summed up all of what I felt. Its a beautiful song. And yes, I could have missed th pain but Ida had to miss the dance. No way would I have ever taken that road.

How could I have forgotten The Dance? When my hubby and I were separated my dear brother-in-law said he couldn’t even listen to that song cuz it made him think of Barry and I (luckily that was 10 yrs ago–we got back together and celebrated our 22nd anniversary on 6/22).
Dingo, sorry to hear about your guy’s passing.

Hi Dingo. Nice to “see” you again. I think of you when I hear that song because of your story.
I have been trying to find a version of Kathy Mattea’s “Where’ve You Been”, but can’t find one.
Oh, and I probably love “crying songs” best of all. Not to be depressed or morbid, but a good song can make me reach inside to places that I’m sometimes afraid to go and a good cry is very cleansing.
Since we’re on the subject, here’s another tear-jerker.
