Saturday Smörgåsbord

24 Nov

Well, trying to get my mind off of the devastating loss and the thought of having to work on Monday. Still thankful, however.

Tears Dry on Their Own, Amy Winehouse. Dig the Ain’t No Mountain High Enough beat.

Say, John Mayer. From the new movie The Bucket List with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman — can’t wait for that one.

Wait For Me, Susan Tedeschi. No explanation needed.

Dragonforce. Mini DD’s favorite song….from Guitar Hero.

Groaning the Blues, Eric Clapton. “Slowhand” is still da man.

All I Want For Christmas is You, Mariah Carey. Because “here it comes”….and this song is just so fun.

House. Because I love him.

Lastly, this, right here, is funny….. don’t care who ya are. Messin’ with cats is just so damn fun.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

I want to dig the Ain’t No Mountain High Enough beat, but as I said in the Shelby Lynn post, the vocals here to me are just not jiving with the music. Which might be what Amy’s going for here – she seems to want to shake things up and go against the grain. But it just sounds messy to my ears.

I do like the new JM song, despite his taste in pop music, or his caving to the man thing, whichever it is. And I always like some Clapton and some Susan Tedeschi!

All I Want For Christmas is one of my favorite Christmas songs. Reminds me of the movie Love, Actually. MMM, Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson AND Colin Firth!!

Shrew!!! A woman after my own heart! I’m sitting here reading the new Bette Davis biography (man, was she a handful) and there’s my girl on your link!

Love those difficult divas of the Golden Age of Movies, even if they couldn’t sing worth a damn.

Here’s a fantastic campy club mix of another great non-singer Joan Crawford (my favorite screen shrew!):

Also, you had to say “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” didn’t you MM? Your resident Motown nut job can’t let that comparison go unanswered…
On that score, there ain’t nothin’ like the real thing, baby:

and a strange treat — Ms. Dusty Springfield singing it with — gulp — Englebert Humperdinck!
