Before and After…American Idol Style

22 Jan

While we go through the audition rounds of American Idol, I thought it might be interesting to re-visit some of the better known “idols” auditions, compared to more recent performances. Some have dramatically transformed, while others have not changed whatsoever. See what you think….

Wonder if we’ll see the winner’s audition this week? Or maybe last week? I don’t think that there’s ever been a winner whose audition wasn’t seen in the initial rounds, so that whittles it down quite a bit. From my count, we’ve seen about 10 auditions that were “put through” although there’s more than 40 so far that are “goin’ to Hollywood”.

Thanks for the links. Some Idols have really come a long way. I wish them all well.

Just looking at the audition times aired of the Season 5 Idols, it was apparent that the producers were stacking the decks. Taylor: 3:21 min; Chris: 3:03 min; Katharine: 2:22 min; Elliott: 15 seconds. How obvious could they be? 15 seconds!? LOL.

Taylor, Chris and Kat really got a head start from TPTB.

Well…it has certainly never been about what the public wants to see! But it cracks me up that AI has issues with VFTW yet these few weeks set up VFTW every season!

Thanks for all the work putting this together MM. I had forgotten how much talent Fantasia had. Tay-tay was good then and is still true to his “voice.” I feel like Kelley and Kat’s voices are lost in the over-produced electronics of their songs. Carrie’s voice is amazing. She seems to also be pretty much who she was vocally (only with better clothes, hair and makeup). I always liked Elliott as a person/personality and he had a few moments on the show that were good, but overall I have to say… meh.
I’d like to close by saying… What the heck happened to Clay?

I enjoyed the trip down memory lane, MM! Kelly, Ruben, Clay, Fantasia, Jennifer, Carrie, & Taylor all had really brilliant auditions. You knew something different was happening. I never cared for Jordin or Kat from the beginning, I thought they were both screechy. I love Kelly still – and I think Walk Away is my favorite song of hers! Blake I think should get the most improved award. His audition was not very good, but I really kind of like Break Anotha. And so now we wait – will something different happen tonight or tomorrow? Or will it be another season of meh?

And just cause I love her so, here’s LaKisha’s audition:

And need I add: one of the best voices ever on Idol, and a really touching moment post-audition. If LaKisha had better song choices, and if they’d stressed those “backstage” stories more last year, she might have come closer. As it is, she has the raw talent for a real music career….
