The David Wars

20 May

More on the whole American Idol “slide” later, but tonight pitts Cookie against Archie.  The first all male final since Ruben vs. Clay.  I think everyone that I know is clearly on the side of the adult, but I could be over-estimating.

As if I could like David A. any less, we find out that his father is a stage dad who shamelessly promotes his kid to the point of aggravating the AI producers.  Now, if the AI producers are displeased with your over-promotion, you know you have a problem.

Here’s my favorite performances of each.  You tell me.

  Billie Jean, David Cook

A little background article on Cookie….

  Imagine, David Archuleta

A little background article on Archie…

My prediction?  It’s a done deal.  David Cook is the 2008 American Idol.  But, where he goes from here, I just don’t know.  I’m envisioning mediocre sellers for their debut CDs as AI will pimp them for all they can get, but the sophomore efforts will be dismal for both Cook and Archuleta.

There’s always Broadway.

😉

Well considering Cook was pulled out by producers and TOLD he was auditioning…my guess is they WANT their rocker.

But I don’t see poor Archie having the tough enough skin to take it if he looses. Treacle aside…I believe this poor kid has been sold a bill of goods by his family, the moshpit and the producers that he can’t loose. Someone tell him no matter the outcome, Andrew Lloyd Weber will be calling with a revival of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat.

You two are killin’ me! 🙂
Yes, that was the performance, MM…the one that landed me on a comfy seat on the Cookie Bandwagon.
Poor Archie. I really do feel for the kid. He’s a darling boy. Ya know, he really would make a fine Joseph. Or maybe even Danny Zuko??? NAHHHH!

Ugh, KD, I just got totally nauseaus thinking of Taylor having to share the Grease bill with Archie. I’m betting that he shows up in RENT.

I haven’t watched the show in weeks in part because I couldn’t stand David Archuleta. If any AI performer was perfect for Broadway it’s him. He would also do a great job of belting out whatever smarmy song they make the winner sing at the end. David Cook on the other hand could only be hurt by having to sing the winner’s ballad.

I wonder if Cookie will change the winner’s ballad the way he’s changed everything else? It would be a lovely thing to see. Archie sappily crooning through some nonsense song, and Cookie growling the same song, making it more than anyone thought it could be. Now THAT would be worth my votes.

Oh KD…how devilishly delightful if Cook could put some Ironic spin on “This Is The Moment I make you Most Proud Because The Wonder of It All”

    heehee

I’ve been saying since they got to Los Angeles that this was David Cook’s contest to lose. But I do wonder if Archuleta’s teen devotees cast enough votes for him to pull off the upset?

Zan says Cookie is singing a duet with Daughtry. It’s all over. 😉
(By the way, he was joking! I can just see it now…picked up on AOL news: “An exclusive from Music Maven’s blog! American Idol Finale Spoiler! Cook-Daughtry Duo…daring or dastardly?!”)

OH MY! YOU ALL HAVE ME PEEING IN MY PANTS I’M LAUGHING SO HARD!!!
Shrew you nailed it! (And I love the title of the inevitable song we will have to endure tomorrow night:)
If MY David Cook can make Mariah Carey cool…He can do anything!
    Go Dave!

And look for the revival starring Archie next season.

Actually, he would be really good in this.

    SPOILER ALERT

Pond Culture says that Clive is actually picking a song for each David.

For Archie, it’s Summerlove Sensation (The Bay City Rollers, really?!?)

And, for Cookie, it’s Perfect Day by Lou Reed.

    Don’t know the voracity…..but, Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I have also read “Don’t Let the Sun go Down on Me” for Archie (which seems more likely)

Perfect Day…THAT has to be a gaff, right?

Take a gander at Pond Culture…a Brit with real humor. Highly doubt that we’ll either see Clive on AI or hear anything from Lou Reed. But it was clever.

How about Archi wins and Cook is free to make his album with no strings attached? It’s win-win. btw: Cook is my favorite too.

Oh and since I am being so lame…Are we taking bets on “the biggest star” on Wed? I say Sir Paul.

(BUT PLEASE no BEATLE Reunions via dead Elvis Duet technology)

You watch—it is SO gonna be Elvis…singing WITH The Beatles via dead Elvis duet tecnology….with Sir Paul coming out from behind the screen at THE right moment for maximum scream impact.

Random — forgettaboutit. Everyone in the Top24 sold their souls. AI basically owns everyone and only the winner has any kind of leverage in choosing their management. After Taylor stood them up on their deal, I imagined they’ve re-tooled the AI handcuffs and Mr. Cook and Mr. Archuleta, as well as any of the Top 24 who has any remote success, WILL pay the piper.

Shrew & KD — Shut it. If they commit that sacrilege, we’ll know they definitively jumped the shark.
