New John Mayer

07 Apr

Looks like Johnny Boy is getting over his latest break-up and had a blast on Mayercraft Carrier II.  On board, JM shared one of the new songs that will be on his new, upcoming CD.  Looks like an aptly named effort:

  Heartbreak Warfare (Acoustic)

  Heartbreak Warfare (Electric)

Lightning strikes
Inside, a chance to keep me up at night
Dream of ways
To make you understand my pain

Drop his name
Push it in and twist the knife again
Watch my face
As I pretend to feel no pain

Clouds of sulfur in the air
Bombs are falling everywhere
It’s heartbreak warfare
Once you want it to begin,
No one really every wins
In heartbreak warfare

If you want more love,
why don’t you say so?
If you want more love,
why don’t you say so?

Clouds of sulfur in the air
Bombs are falling everywhere
It’s heartbreak warfare
Once you want it to begin,
No one really ever wins
In heartbreak warfare.

If you want more love,
why don’t you say so?
If you want more love,
why don’t you say so?

Just say so…

How come the only way to know how high you get me
is to see how far I fall
God only knows how much I’d love you if you let me
but I can’t break free at all.

It’s a heartbreak…

I don’t care if we don’t sleep at all tonight
Let’s just fix this whole thing now
I swear to God we’re gonna get it right
If you put your weapon down
Red wine (?) is in the air
You’re talking shit again, it’s heartbreak warfare
Good to know it’s all a game
Disappointment has a name, it’s heartbreak warfare.

The new CD should be interesting….

Off topic, but I can’t control my enthusiasm. I’m gonna be in the second row tomorrow night seeing Kris Kristofferson at an 800 seat venue. I’m so damn excited I can’t stand it. If you’re a Kris fan MM, I’ll give ya a recap. I’m seeing a living legend music icon up close and personal – just so f&*king cool!

HUGE Kristofferson fan. Actually have a draft on a Kris post in my stack of unfinisheds (along with that Conway post). Definitely would love a recap and maybe I can dust off the cobwebs on that KK post.

I was coming here to ask you to delete my post. Then thought, gee I love the way MM writes, maybe she’ll do a Kris post. The last Rolling Stone issue had a great 14 page article on him by Ethan Hawke – good stuff. Please dust off that Kris post. Conway can wait.

I posted the same “ahem” review at the boogie board MM. So if you want to edit or delete this MM, feel free. I’m on an “OMG, I can’t believe I had such an incredible experience High” this morning, but here’s my ramblings.

    Good morning. Is it morning?
I’ve just had an out of body experience. Kris was 20 feet away from me. Sang to me. Talked to me. Shook my hand. I have to compose my thoughts on this one. This was like having Kris in my living room, sitting on my couch. Singing. Telling stories. Hitting the wrong notes on the guitar and laughing. I’m still pinching myself that I really experienced what I experienced. Seriously – TOTALLY FUCKING AMAZING. He was so close, I could have spotted a zit. The man looks incredible. He sounded incredible. Better than any recorded Kris that I’ve ever heard. Deliciously raspy and pitch perfect on every note. Talking about his wive(s). Telling his kids how much he loves them. Apologizing to the audience for the bad guitar notes. I said “no worries” and he smiled at me and blushed. Seriously! There was no stage (just a little thing a foot high with all worn out wood and an old carpet). There was no fancy lighting – they just dimmed the lights. There was no sound board – just Kris and his guitar with a guy sitting next to a few amps that would fit in my living room. I’m tellin’ ya KRIS KRISTOFFERSON SANG TO ME IN MY LIVING ROOM LAST NIGHT – THEN SAT AND CHATTED LIKE HE WAS SITTIN’ ON MY COUCH.

There was a guy from Scotland that opened for him and when we got there he was singing and the lights were all turned up bright and the guy was singing and adjusting his guitar and the sound and stuff and we were like WTF? And all of a sudden in the middle of him singing, Kris just ambles on stage. Just like that. There he is. The guy singing starts to laugh and so does Kris. Kris says “oops sorry – I came out during the wrong song – I never get things right”. He goes on to explain that he sings on a song on this guy’s new album, but he came on stage during the wrong song. I gotta find out who the Scottish guy is because he was really good. They sing a song together and the Scottish guy leaves and there’s Kris – all apologetic and blushing for ruining the guy’s set. RUINING THE GUY’S SET. This is Kris F&*king Kristofferson. Oh that’s right, I’m in an alternate universe and he’s in my living room. Just dropping by for a visit.

Really, it’s 8:30 the next morning and I’m still pinching myself. I didn’t bring my flipping camera. I could have had a picture of KRIS KRISTOFFERSON HUGGING ME. Other people were getting these pictures at the end.

I will never ever hear Loving Her Was Easier again without tears streaming down my face. His live, up close and personal, looking straight at me version was chill inducing. His perfectly non-perfect voice has aged to the point where he almost whispers the lyrics and it’s ethereal and haunting. I have never experienced someone singing from their soul like that before and probably never will again. Then when he’s finished, he gets this little boy “aw shucks” look, blushes and says “thank you” like he can’t understand what everyone is clapping for. Seriously. Kris Kristofferson being sincerely unaffected and acting undeserved of the audience love. Unbelievable.

Thanks for letting me get all of that out. I know there’s more because I’m sort of still reeling. No I’m not hung over. At least not from any man made substances. I’m definitely still high on an experience of a life time. Hope I don’t come down for a while.

I was closer to him than in this video, but it kind of has the vibe of what I experienced. One of the most beautiful songs ever written.

Oops, wish I could edit. I think I posted the song link wrong too. Sorry MM.

I cant wait for Johns new album in November. I already love “Taking on Water” and “Half of My Heart” Im sure this will follow in line with his previous albums and stay in my cd player for months after the release.
