Long Live the Queen

04 Jun

Queen of the Blues, KoKo Taylor, has passed on to that Wang Dang Doodle in the sky….

At 80, she could still show them all how it’s done.

The Queen is dead…

I am heart broken! I discovered Koko Taylor when I bought a tape compilation from Alligator Records in the early 90’s. I was driving to see a friend in Connecticut when I heard this woman rasping and reaching and preaching about EVIL. I had to pull over and find out who was this woman. It was Koko. I have had her on my list of must see legends along with Etta, Reeree, Van and Dylan and now I am too late.

May she rest in peace and her family find solace in the love of her fans.

    Some of my favorites…

    Look at this 2008 performance!

    Lawdy, will she be missed.

oooh thanks so much Huck & MM!

I saw Koko many moons ago at the San Francisco Blues Festival. She was one of the last of the red-hot, grits-and-grease Southern belters, a tradition that I hate to see go away.

That Willie Dixon cut is priceless!

I love Koko. I had the blues when I read that she passed away. I had seen her perform live at least 20 times. She was a powerhouse. R.I.P.

Thank you for your video tribute to her.
